Bridget Jones, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and a boutique called Renes…

What do Bridget Jones, Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly all have in common? Renes would love to style all three, and we think they would find something fabulous for each of them!

We caught up with Tiffany from Renes Boutique in Lancaster to chat all things style, fashion buying, trends to watch and of course Harrogate Fashion Week! Here’s what she had to say

What do you like the most about HFW?

As a small independent boutique, I love that HFW strikes the perfect balance, it’s big enough to bring together most of the fabulous brands we stock, yet still has that intimate, community feel. You bump into familiar faces, catch up with agents you’ve known for years, and meet new fashion friends who quickly feel like old ones. There’s a real buzz, but it never feels overwhelming.

Why do you attend HFW?

It’s a no-brainer for us, just a two-hour drive door-to-door with super convenient parking, brilliant hotels, and a wealth of fantastic restaurants to wind down in after a full day of buying. It turns a work trip into a mini retreat, and we always come away inspired.

Any tips for new buyers attending in August to help them make the most out of the show?

Definitely wear comfortable shoes, you’ll be on your feet all day! Give yourself time to explore and don’t rush. There are hidden gems tucked away between the bigger names, and chatting with exhibitors or fellow buyers can uncover the best surprises. Keep an open mind and be curious, it’s the best way to discover something truly special.

How do you stay organised and maximise your time during the event?

We book appointments throughout the day to help structure our visit, but we also leave space to wander and be inspired. It’s important not to go in too rigidly – some of our best finds have come from unexpected conversations or spontaneous detours. A bit of planning with room for serendipity is key!

Do you have any networking tips for newcomers?

Be open and approachable, some of the most valuable insights come from casual chats. Don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation with exhibitors or fellow buyers. Many of them are seasoned pros and happy to share advice. And definitely stay for the fizz and nibbles on the Sunday end of Day 1 of the show, it’s a lovely, relaxed way to connect.

Where is your favourite place to eat/drink in Harrogate?

So many to choose from! Harrogate is full of culinary gems for every taste and budget. A current favourite is The Orchid, Pan-Asian cuisine with bold flavours, perfect after a busy day. But honestly, you could try somewhere different every night and not go wrong.

What are you most excited to see at HFW in August?

Catching up with our beloved brands is always a highlight, but there’s also that thrill of discovering something new – a label you’ve never seen before that just fits perfectly with your boutique. We love the hunt as much as the find!

What is one thing that HAS to be in your bag for HFW?

Business cards for sure, they’re still gold for networking. And our phones are essential, not just for taking pictures of the pieces we love, but for creating reels and behind-the-scenes content for social media. It’s all part of bringing our customers along for the journey.

What is one brand you first discovered at HFW and still love?

Marble. We found them at HFW and they’ve since become one of our best-sellers. Their collections are always wearable, easy pieces with a great price point.

What makes HFW different to other trade events?

It has that sweet spot: large enough to showcase a wide variety of brands, but small enough to feel friendly and easy to get around. It doesn’t feel corporate or clinical – it feels personal. That atmosphere makes all the difference.

What trend are you most excited about this summer?

We love when trusted brands evolve and surprise us. This season, we’re all about vibrant colour stories, petal pinks, that timeless nautical vibe. ‘Ladies who lunch’ looks are making a return, with luxury tweeds and refined textures looking strong for both summer and heading into autumn/winter.

Who would be your dream celebrity customer and why?

Audrey Hepburn and Princess Grace of Monaco, icons of timeless elegance. Their style transcended trends and still inspires fashion today. To have them walk into the boutique? That would be the dream. And then there’s Bridget Jones, forever on a diet, never quite sure what to wear, always prepared to laugh at herself. She has that essential little black dress in her wardrobe, loves versatile fashion pieces, and let’s be honest, there’s a bit of Bridget in all of us. Shopping is often a disaster for her, and we’d absolutely love to welcome her to Renes and help her find pieces that make her feel fabulous.

Founded in 1955 by Irene Newby and her daughter Pamela, Renes has been a staple of Lancaster’s high street for 70 years. Now led by Irene’s granddaughter Tiffany, Renes has embraced the digital age while maintaining its commitment to exceptional customer service in their beautifully refurbished boutique.

Renes offers personalised in-store experiences, an online store, and an in-house alterations service. The boutique features a curated mix of designer and budget-friendly brands to suit all tastes.

Deeply rooted in the community, Renes supports local charities and sponsors a girls’ football team. Its annual fashion show fundraiser and collaborations with local businesses highlight its dedication to giving back.

As they approach their 70th anniversary in 2025, Renes exemplifies how heritage and heart can drive a business forward meaningfully and stylishly.

Renes stock many fantastic brands, including Hope and Ivy; Rino and Pelle; Emu Australia; HV Society; Alquema and many more who will be exhibiting at HFW in August. Discover more about their boutique at renesfashion.co.uk
